Getting Rid of the Taskbar

Any computer running Vista is equipped with a taskbar which shows the time and keeps track of all the programs being run. Unfortunately, for some models, especially netbooks with small displays, the taskbar takes up a fair amount of valuable screen space.

Fortunately, Vista allows you to hide it, and get the space back. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to hide the taskbar when you’re not using it:

1. Right click on the taskbar. You’ll see a variety of options pop up. Select “Properties” and click once. Taskbar and Start Menu Properties

2. Next, you’ll see a window titled “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.” In order to remove the taskbar, you’ll need to make sure the box labeled “Auto-hide the taskbar” is checked.

If it’s not checked, move your cursor to the adjacent box and check it by clicking it one time.

3. Press the “OK” button and you’ll be all set! The taskbar will no longer show up unless you move your mouse to the bottom of your screen. If you decide that you want the taskbar back, navigate to the “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” using the method described above and uncheck the “Auto-hide” option.
