So there is this bothersome feature called overtype. This is a somewhat archaic feature that was once useful back when using a computer meant typing in something called the command line. Since then, computers have gotten much easier to use with fancy graphics and what have you.
When enabled, this ‘feature’ types overtop of existing characters instead of pushing them ahead as you type (to see what I’m talking about, check the video below.) This can be really annoying if one doesn’t know that the overtype feature exists and doesn’t know how it got turned on. The overtype feature gets turned on from the ‘insert’ key found on most keyboards (somewhere in the top right, usually near the home, end, delete keys.) Pressing this will disable the issue.
The biggest problem with overtype is the lack of awareness. I’ve seen people get frustrated because they don’t know why this is happening, and they usually resort to restarting their computer just to get it back to normal. So the plan is to load this post up with tags that will make it easy for anyone to find this article and finally learn how to prevent this annoying ‘feature’ from being enabled! If you came here through a search engine, then said plan has been a success. See the video below if you are unsure if overtype is the problem you are having.
